As Mike would like to quote the Dude, “Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes the bar eats you.” (Now, I’m not sure that the Dude meant kidney failure, but we’ll let that one slide.) Despite living the dream on dialysis, we know that the next right thing for Mike is a
kidney transplant. When it comes to keeping up with three girls under four, dialysis can be really draining. (Pun intended.) Plus, without the freedom of a transplant, how else is he going to find the time to learn to braid his daughter’s hair before sending her off to preschool in the fall? Priorities.
Seriously, though, there aren’t words for the amazing gift of life that comes with organ donation, and we have not only one but a few family members who are selflessly pursuing candidate testing to become living donors. Should we have the blessing of a match AND approval for transplant, we could be in the OR as early as summer. Please consider purchasing a t-shirt or hoodie to support our family as we anticipate the expenses for a kidney transplant for not only Mike but also a living donor. (Bonus points if you go GREEN for kidney disease awareness!) We promise we’ll do our best to be a good investment. :)
